Indoor Soccer Rules & Regulations
1. Have Fun! Everyone likes winning, but please keep in mind that this is a great opportunity to play soccer in a different environment and enjoy that change!
2. Be good sports! There are a lot of goals scored in indoor soccer. If you are winning by a large margin, please try to keep it within reason.
3. Be respectful of the facility! We are not outdoors. Please do not wear cleats! Turfs and flats only. Please keep the facility clean. Please do not SPIT on the turf or off the field!
RULES
I. If rules not specified below, please refer to standard outdoor rules.
II. Ball: We will use a Futsal ball for all indoor league games.
III. Number of Players: u5/u6 will play 4v4 with no goalkeeper. u7 through u12 will play 5v5 including goalkeeper. u13 through High School will play 4v4 including goalkeeper. Adult Open League will play 4v4 including goalkeeper. All other adult leagues will play 5v5 including goalkeeper.
IV. Players' Equipment: Players may not wear cleats. Players must wear shinguards.
V. Referee: Decisions made by the referee will be final. Our referees have been instructed to have “Player Safety” as their #1 priority.
VI. Game times: All games will be played in 40 minute time blocks in league play. When a game ends, the next game time clock will begin immediately. If a team wastes 5 minutes getting onto the field, the game will be played for 35 minutes. No stoppages due to injuries or other problems.
VII. Kickoffs: Game will start at midfield kickoff. After goals are scored, ball starts at goalkeeper box. For goalkicks and once Goalkeeper has the ball (in u12 Age group and younger), opposing team must back up behind midfield line until ball is put in play (unless attacking team chooses to play the ball immediately).
VIII. Out of Play: The netting above the boards and covering the ceiling is out of bounds. Any time ball goes out of play, ball will be restarted with an indirect kick by opposing team.
IX. Goalkeeper:
A. Box: Goalkeeper must have both feet in the box to pick up the ball with hands, or the ball must be inside the box.
B. No passbacks: Goalkeeper may not use hands on a deliberate passback from a teammate.
C. No punting or drop kicks. Goalkeeper may throw the ball or put the ball down and play with feet.
X. Restarts: All restarts are indirect, unless there is a deliberate foul or hand ball in a goal scoring opportunity, which would result in a direct kick at the penalty spot with a goalkeeper.
A. Opposing team must stand at least 10 feet or 3 yards away from ball on restarts.
XI. Infractions: Referee has the authority to send a player off due to violent or multiple fouls. We have very low tolerance for this!
A. First time send off: Player must sit for 2 minutes. Team may substitute that player.
B. Second time send off: Player is out for the game, and will be unable to participate in the remainder of the league until he/she has a meeting with League Director to be considered for reinstatement into the league.
XII. Scoring and Scoreclocks: The referee will be in control of score clocks and scoreboards. If a team is winning by a margin of 8 goals at any point, the losing team will be allowed to add 1 extra player on the field. The losing team may add another player if a 9 goal margin is reached. The addition of players will end at 2 extras. Once, or if, the margin drops below 8, the extra player must leave the field.
WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THE SCORE BEING RUN UP ON A TEAM. THIS IS INDOOR SOCCER AND LOTS OF GOALS ARE SCORED, BUT WINNING BY 15 GOALS OR MORE IS UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE BE GOOD SPORTS! BAD SPORTSMANSHIP WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND MAY WARRANT A MEETING WITH THE LEAGUE DIRECTOR.
XIII. Substitutions occur 'on the fly'. You may substitute at any time, but the player must wait until the player they are replacing leaves the field. A player coming off must observe the "surrender rule" and not attempt to play the ball as they are leaving the field.
XIV. Tie Breakers for League Play
1. Head to Head
2. Goal differential (up to 8 goal max per game)
3. Goals against
4. Penalty shootout
XV. Playoff Rules: No playoff games can end in a tie. If game is tied at the end of regulation, sudden death overtime decides a winner. If no winner is decided after 3 minutes, each team must remove a player from the field. This continues every 3 minutes until someone scores.
